East Timor is recovery from decades of Indonesian rule and genocide. An estimated 250,000 East Timorese were killed by the Indonesians and Indonesian backed militia between 1975 and 1999. Almost 10 years on from gaining Independence East TImor is on a slow road to recovery.
It is still one of the poorest nations on earth but the people have great hope for their independent futures.
